If you're serious about getting scouted or recruited in Europe, your football highlight video is one of the most powerful tools you have. It’s your first impression, and often the only chance you'll get to show your game before a coach or scout decides whether to take the next step.
Here’s how to create a highlight video that actually gets noticed, not ignored.

1. Keep It Short (3–5 Minutes Max)
Scouts don’t have time to watch a 10-minute clip of every touch. They want to see your best actions quickly. Start strong. The first 30 seconds should include your most impressive moments. If you don’t grab their attention fast, they’ll stop watching.
Pro Tip: Lead with goals, assists, defensive actions, or 1v1s that show quality, not just simple passes.
2. Add Simple Labels and Context
Before each clip, add a short text label: “#10 in red - assist,” or “#5 CB - defensive recovery.” Let the scout know where you are and what to watch for.
Also, choose clips from real matches at a competitive level. Friendly games or unorganised footage don’t help your case.
3. Focus on Decision-Making, Not Just Skills
Yes, technical ability is important. But more than anything, scouts want to see how you think:
Do you scan before receiving the ball?
Do you make the right pass under pressure?
Do you recover quickly after a mistake?
Your highlights should reflect the speed of play, your game IQ, and how you impact the match.
4. Use High-Quality Footage (Even from a Phone)
A clean, steady shot is all you need. You don’t need a film crew, but avoid shaky camera work or zoomed-in angles that cut the play off.
Many young players use a tripod and smartphone to record games. If your team has Veo, Hudl, or Spiideo, use that footage. It’s gold.
5. Finish with a Contact Slide
End your video with a clear slide that includes:
Your full name
Position(s)
Nationality
Age / birth year
Contact info (email or WhatsApp)
Socials (if relevant)
Link to full match footage
This makes it easy for a club, scout, or academy to follow up.
Bonus: Keep Updating Your Video
As your game improves, your video should too. Don’t rely on one highlight reel from last season. Keep it fresh.
